Wordpress Login Problem
I was just updating to wordpress 2.6.2. It was running smoothly. After upgrading is completed, I logged in and checked if everything is okay, including plugin. When all done, I logged out, but realize I missed something. So, I went back to the login panel, but guess what, I can’t login. What the #@*&!
What happen is, when I filled in username and password and press enter, it was loading but keeps getting back to the login panel. I couldn’t go to wordpress dashboard. So, second attempt was clicked on ‘forget my password’ and try again. But no luck. Third attempt is to get in to phpmyadmin, changed the password and tried again, but still no luck. Forth attempt is trying it in several browsers, Opera, Google Chrome, Safari, IE7, but still.. still no bloody luck. I thought I really lost all my luck that day!
Nothing else I can do, but put my hope on Google ( It’s the men’s best friend
). Did a lots of searching here and there and finally found what had caused the problem. It’s because of ‘cookies‘ (Nah.. not that kind of cookies in the picture, but browser cookies) Grrr.. ok… The problem is after the upgrade, the browser gets new admin cookie, it has the same name as the old single login cookie, but somehow, with a new path. So, it got confused about which cookie go where.
The fix is very simple though, just clear the cookies in the browser I used to login in the first place, which in this case, Firefox. Go to Tools > Option > Privacy (tab) > Show Cookies (button). Look for the URL in the list and press ‘Remove Cookies’ ( I press ‘Remove All Cookies’ anyway). And it just work like charm.
So for you guys who blogged around with wordpress and someway, somehow, suddenly get this problem, first thing to do is, don’t panic. Then sit back, relax and enjoy clearing your cookies. Adios Amigos!
