Pantene - Samson’s hair?
Wednesday, March 26th, 2008One thing I have in mind when looking at these ads. The hair is so hard and thick, it breaks everything, even metal. I thought only Samson’s hair can do this, but I was wrong 
. Well, I don’t like these ads. I believe they want to show a “strong” hair instead, but the concept visualization just doesn’t look right.
Marketing research, a simple approach

Marketing research is a process of gathering, recording and analyzing information in certain areas or locations. It includes research for customers, competitors and the overall people who lives in the target market.
In general, marketing research includes:
1. Market research
Very broad range of examinations including all aspects in the business environment. competitors, market structure, government regulations, trends, education, technology advances and other factors that make up the big impact to business environment.
2. Product research
Examine what products can be produced and launched base on the available technology.
3. Advertising research
Examine what type of ads will suit the market and attract people to look for the products. A pre-testing should be brought up to predicts market performance before developing the ads. There is also a research to calculate the effectiveness of the ads after its launch.

Creative design - between price and quality

“Ok, that’s cheap. Let them do the thing.”
These are words we hear too often as a service provider. I really feel helpless when I hear this. Some people just can’t think what are the consequences of buying something cheap. Yes, I know not everything cheap means bad, but normally most of them do. Let’s take an example of a mobile phone. There’re ranges of many brands, types and price. From the cheapest one to the most expensive one. Even if you buy the cheap one, you can still have the basic features like make phone call, text messaging, polyphonic ringtones, camera, etc. But if you buy the one with higher price, you should be able to do more thing with your mobile, mp3 player, video player, camera with higher resolution, video call, etc., beside the basic features.
In creative designs, surely the rules play. The higher you pay, the better result you get. I’ve seen many designers (or mostly college students) advertise their cheap price rather than quality. The cheapest I can see in Jakarta is Rp300,000 for a complete static website. Wow.. I mean wow.. I really love to see how the design look like . I can bet quality is not a concern here. The design won’t help your business. We all should notice that beforehand. (more…)
Heinz Tomato Ketchup’s Fresh Ad
Monday, March 24th, 2008Great visual to communicate freshness of tomato ketchup. Playing with the bottle to visualize tomato. The left one is showing sliced tomato forming the bottle and the right one is showing the bottom of bottle as tomato. It is a creative approach. I wonder what the creative guys did when coming up with this concept.
